Katie has over 14 years of experience dealing with a wide range of family matters, from divorce and finances to child related matters and domestic abuse. Having developed a particular interest over the years in assisting those who suffer from domestic abuse, she instigated free legal advice sessions within local refuges, was heavily involved in the local Family Justice Council and became chairperson for the local abuse charity, Family Matters.
Katie now focusses primarily on children matters, for example making applications to court for child arrangements orders to determine residence and contact and any urgent steps required to protect a family. She also deals with circumstances where a local authority have become involved and are seeking to remove children from their parent’s care.
Katie works with clients in an understanding and supportive manner, always striving to achieve a workable and realistic solution which will allow the parties to work together for the future benefit of their children and each other.
Katie is able to offer advice and representation under the Legal Aid Scheme, where the necessary requirements are met. In the event clients are not eligible for free legal advice, she offers a variable cost structure allowing clients to choose what level of assistance and representation they require to meet their needs. She will always offer realistic cost estimates for each stage of proceedings in order to ensure that financial considerations do not increase the stress suffered by clients at an already difficult time.
