Family Law

We are on your side

Divorce, separation and family finance

It is paramount that you take early advice from experts who specialise in a particular area of family law, so that you receive the best advice from the outset. This will ensure that you are able to consider all the options available to you and make the most appropriate and well informed choices for you and your family.

We have an experienced specialist Family Finances Team in Ianthe Slinger, Lauren Cooney and Cath Porter who are able to advise you on all aspects of divorce and the financial implications of separation. We have the expertise and many years of experience of advising clients who have complex financial arrangements, business assets, trusts and pensions as well as high net worth and international jurisdiction cases.

Many of the cases we deal with have a business or commercial element and we are well rehearsed in acting for either spouse. Our clients are mainly recommended by word of mouth, through friends, family and other professionals who have experienced positive outcomes and who respect our sound judgement and common sense approach. We are committed to providing pragmatic, cost effective solutions for our clients.

We are dedicated to assisting our clients in resolving their matters amicably and in the least contentious way possible. However, if and when court proceedings have to be initiated, we have the experience, tenacity and skill to guide you through the process.

Child arrangements, social services and domestic violence

Highly experienced Michael Stocken and Katie Williams are our children law experts, specialising in both public and private law children cases. Whether involving social services or a private law matter, it is paramount to receive advice from experts in this specialist area of law.

We represent parents, other family members, children and children’s guardians in all public law proceedings. These include proceedings where the local authority have applied for emergency protection orders and care orders or where parents have applied for contact with children in care and discharge of care orders. We can also advise and assist where children are voluntarily accommodated and will attend child protection conferences. Legal aid is usually granted to all parents and children involved in public law cases, regardless of financial means.

Additionally, we can assist you with applications for non-molestation orders, to prevent the respondent in proceedings from threatening the applicant, or occupation orders, where the respondent is restricted from entering a certain area.

We are also rehearsed in acting for children, parents and family members in other disputes, for example where parents are separated and there are issues with contact with a child or a dispute as to where the child should reside and with whom. We can offer advice where there are other specific issues that need to be resolved or advice upon prohibiting a particular course of action.

We can also assist you with

• Judicial separation

• Dissolution of civil partnerships

• Cohabitation agreements and disputes

• Pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements

• Separation agreements
